Upon arriving I was met by the store manager, Richard. He gave me a quick tour and told me all about the store. I have to say this is the most organized thrift store I’ve ever been in. Each section is sized, so no more hunting through racks and racks just to find 4 items that may fit. Even the shoes are sized, and being a woman with a larger sized shoe that was definitely appreciated.
The Thrifty HoG (TTH) isn’t just a great place to go shopping. By shopping here you support an even greater cause, aiding homeless mothers and children. The Hearts of Gold non-profit, founded by Deborah Koenigsberger in 1996, has many efforts to aid in homeless mothers’ journey to self sufficiency. They work with the shelters, Freedom House, Nazareth Housing, Nazareth House Harlem and Semiperm HDFC. TTH also funds programs like Homes of Their Own, when they provide household items for mothers transitioning to private residences. Another program, Growth by Learning, provides scholarships for the mothers and youth and teen programs like cultural day trips, tutoring and after-school activities. TTH also employs the mothers and teach them all about the business.
Shopping at the Thrifty HoG not only saves you money but it also is a helping had to those in need.
