Y’all, your girl was in a Clairol, Nice & Easy Campaign. Clairol had 100 women dye their hair with their newly formulated Nice & Easy permanent hair dye. They wanted to test if a new hair color would boost a woman’s confidence. Clairol has also been working on this new formula for years so they wanted the launch to be special, and I think it was just that. Here’s what they found out:
- 97% checked themselves out more
- 87% got more compliments
- 77% gave more compliments
- 70% said they were ready for anything
- 85% felt more confident
Now I’m not saying coloring your hair is going to solve all self-confidence issues, but I do see it as putting on make-up, a new lipstick or that outfit you love. When you do the slightest change it gives you a new outlook on yourself.
My hair color choice was Blue Black. I’ve been wanting to dye my hair black for a few years now and I’m so glad I got to do it under this project. As most of you know who have been reading my last few blog posts, I struggle with self-confidence, some days I think I’m “So fine” and other days I feel like the “ugly friend.” This experience, not necessarily the hair dyeing, but spending 2 days with these amazing women filming this campaign. That’s what gave me the boost in self-confidence. SN: The hair color did make me feel like my hair looked healthier and the process was such a breeze, but since I get a lot of attention for my hair anyways it was hard to feel more confident because of it.
It was amazing to be a part of a project involving so many beautiful women of all shapes, sizes and SKIN TONES. It was awesome to see so many ethnicities represented in the room and black women of all shades, shapes and hair textures. It’s great to see companies understanding representation, there was a slight cropping issue with the first video they posted, but they quickly remedied the situation. Being apart of the experience I saw it as that, a cropping issue. Back to the amazingness. This project not only celebrated women but was directed and produced by women as well. It was great to be celebrated for those two days and now in this commercial.
In my initial interview, they asked “What is confidence to you?” my answer was ” It’s inner self-love expressed outwardly.” My confidence is not based on “How others see me.” but how I see myself. Like I stated earlier I’m still a work in progress. But I’m working on silencing the negative thoughts and replacing them with positive ones, the promises of God and reminding myself of my awesomeness. I have to believe that the power of my thoughts and words are stronger than any negative seed the devil tries to plant. He plants it and I water it by believing it and adding to it. Today with these women I stand with my new hair color, lol, in confidence, in God’s promises and most importantly loving myself more and more each day.
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
Ephesians 2:10 NIV
P.S. I would definitely recommend Nice & Easy it was easy to use and left my hair smelling amazing. Head to their website to find your perfect shade!
